The Colluli Resource
The Colluli resource consists of three key potassium bearing salts suitable for the production of potash. The initial development of Colluli will focus on the production of Sulphate of Potash (SOP) and further products are expected to be introduced in later expansions.
In addition to the potassium bearing salts, the resource also contains appreciable amounts of kieserite. Kieserite is a magnesium sulphate which is suitable as a fertiliser in its own right. Alternatively, kieserite can be reacted with kainite to produce potassium sulphate.
To have this combination of potassium bearing salts in a single deposit in solid form is uncommon. The major potash producing regions of the world are rich in sylvinite ores which are suitable for the production of potassium chloride which is also known as Muriate of Potash (MOP).
The definition of potash itself is often not fully understood beyond the agricultural industry. Potash referred to potassium compounds and potassium-bearing materials. The most common is potassium chloride, but potassium sulphate, potassium nitrate and potassium magnesium sulphate are all examples of potash. These potash products realize different prices in the market due to their abundance and crop suitability. Potassium chloride is the most common potash fertiliser and suitable for application to many staple foods such as wheat and corn. Potassium sulphate is suitable for chloride sensitive crops including many fruit and vegetables. Potassium sulphate sells at a price premium relative to the more common potassium chloride.
The advantage of the Colluli resource is that the three potassium bearing salt forms in conjunction with the magnesium sulphate (kieserite) provides the resource the ability to make potassium chloride, potassium sulphate, potassium magnesium sulphate and magnesium sulphate. The shallow depth of mineralisation, proximity to the coast and easy access to the key growth markets, in particularly Africa, India and South East Asia make the Colluli resource highly attractive and positively unique.
